“My path to Canada started as a 16 year old. I boarded the plane from Mexico City to Toronto, and once I sat at my seat, I realized it was only me and my luggage. I cried. I missed my family already. It was tough. I arrived in Canada on a student visa with a scholarship to attend Royal Elite International Academy in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
I stayed with a Canadian home-stay family. They were the best hosts. I spoke very little English but gradually improved over time. I went on to study Business Sales and Marketing at Niagara College and just graduated this past year.
My family owned 3 restaurants in Mexico, however their dream was to open a restaurant in Canada. I prepared the pathway for this before their arrival. I did a lot of research and even attended the small business workshops at the Niagara Folk Arts Multicultural Centre. This course gave me valuable insight on how to operate a business in Canada. My family joined me in Canada only two months ago.
I am so proud and excited to announce that in 2019 we held our GRAND OPENING of our first business in Canada, a Mexican restaurant called “Taco Embassy”. We are located at 22 Academy St. in St. Catharines. Canada has shown me to not cut corners, do things the right way and good will always return to you.”
